and for all the joy this child

has brought into our home.
We ask your guidance in the years before us.
Help us to be worthy
of the trust in those shining eyes
and the expectations in that little heart.
Give us, we pray, the wisdom
to love without over-protecting,
to guide without forcing,
to help without domineering...
and, above all, to understand and respect
the needs of this tiny and wonderful
human being.
And grant, O Lord, that we will always
find Your loving presence in our hearts
and in our home.
