If you ever get the urge to take the scenic route on the way home from SLC, read this first. Every time we pass the rock out by the Great Salt Lake we see people out there. They are filming a Brad Pitt movie out there, so a lot of people lately. Anyhow, we always wanted to stop by and take pictures and whatnot. So, on the way we drive out to the marina to see all the sailboats. We get out of the car, walk over to the lookout, and then we start seeing them. There are spiderwebs in every cranny visible. Not so bad, but looking a little closer, 2-3 cat spiders in each web. Literally, everywhere. They're like, 2 inches in diameter. So we back up and decide to go over to the dock. Well, apparently no one ever really uses the pedestrian dock. More spiderwebs completely covering the entrance, more spiders. They seem to be getting bigger. I am trying not to lose my cool and scare "W". We did manage to hurry and take a few pictures before they started moving in on us.
As if that wasn't bad enough, we head on over to lookout rock. There are flies everywhere, mostly on the ground, no big deal. Ok, then we notice larger pockets of them. We try to avoid them, keep walking. We are looking out over the water. Looking a little closer, we notice that every time a seagull (or dump chicken, as we like to call them) moves it looks like they are kicking up a pile of dust. But no, it's flies. The entire beach is covered in flies. So much that the beach looks black in most areas, SICK! Needless to say, we jumped back in the car and decided we had our fix. I don't think we will be making another trip out there.
We had to take this photo from inside the car. Everywhere you see black, solid flies.
