On Monday, we had plans to visit the Statue of Liberty and then head home. When we bought tickets to go over on the ferry, no line. When we went to go get in the ferry line, they told us we had to go back inside and go through security. CATCH, that line was over an hour long. Do I need to remind you? Still in the middle of a heatwave. No air conditioning. We got in line and all I could think about was forcing my already whining babies to walk through a line without them understanding why for over an hour and another 30-40 minutes in the direct sun. I went out and sold our tickets for $12 less than we bought them for and was happy to have lost the money to be able to get out of line. Then we drove around the other side of the park and took pictures from a distance. New York City is probably manageable touring with small children, but not really in the middle of a heatwave. I got an awesome pic of the boys with my DSLR and that made it all worth it, will share when I get home. Also, does anyone else get really annoyed when they don't water the lawn at national parks? I'm sure they're just conserving/making a statement. But, c'mon the place looks like hell. (BTW Is it just me or do I look like I have polygamist hair in that picture?)
